Specialized compounding
Made for one athlete,
not for the market.
Compounding for elite athletes, clinics and teams since 1997 — prepared to your physician’s specification and reviewed against the rules you compete under.
Overview
What is compounding?
Specialized pharmacy compounding is the art and science of preparing personalized medications to meet an individual patient’s specific needs. For athletes, that can mean a custom topical, an adjusted dosage, or a formulation without an ingredient they can’t take.
SportPharm™ has been compounding for elite athletes, clinics and teams since 1997, making it one of the most experienced names in performance-driven pharmacy.

What’s the process for
specialized compounding?
Three steps, each with a pharmacist check. Nothing is compounded before the clinical and sport review is complete.
Compounded medications require a patient-specific prescription and are not FDA-approved products.
The process
How a prescription becomes a product.
Reviewed, prepared, verified and shipped — typically within three business days of compounding.

- Any ingredient that may be prohibited, require a Therapeutic Use Exemption, or need anti-doping documentation is flagged.
- 2Prepared and verifiedCompound the prescription
- Trained compounders prepare the medication using USP-compliant techniques and ingredients.
- Labeling includes the beyond-use date, storage conditions and lot numbers.
- The pharmacist performs a final verification for accuracy, quality, documentation and labeling.

- Patient education materials are included.
- Typically arrives within three business days after compounding.
Sport status can depend on the ingredient, route, dose and governing body.
What our athletes say
Clean sport, without
the guesswork.
One athlete’s account of what a compounded topical changed for them.
As a competitive triathlete, I’m always cautious about what goes into my body — one wrong ingredient could jeopardize years of training. SportPharm took the guesswork out of my recovery. They compounded a custom topical pain cream that helped manage inflammation without triggering any banned substance concerns. The pharmacist even reviewed it against the WADA list and coordinated with my doctor.

Compounding is the custom preparation of medications to meet an individual’s specific needs—such as adjusting dosage forms, removing allergens, or combining ingredients. Athletes often benefit from compounded medications when commercial options are not available, when they require topical pain relief without systemic effects, or when they need hormone-free, stimulant-free, or clean sport–compliant formulations.
It depends on the ingredients. Our pharmacists review each compounded formula for compliance with WADA, USADA, NCAA, and other athletic governing bodies. If a component is prohibited, we’ll discuss alternatives or help the athlete and prescriber navigate the Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) process if appropriate.
- Topical pain and anti-inflammatory creams
- Nasal sprays for allergies or EIB
- Customized electrolyte or recovery formulas
- Scar treatment or dermatologic preparations
- Medications tailored for GI issues, sleep, or hormone support (if permitted)
We follow strict quality standards, including USP <795>/<797> compliance, batch documentation, and pharmacist verification. Every compound is prepared using pharmaceutical-grade ingredients in a licensed facility. Our team also assesses each formulation for clinical appropriateness, safety, and athletic regulatory compliance.
Once we receive a complete prescription and verify all necessary details, most compounded products are prepared and shipped within 1–2 business days. Depending on your location, you’ll receive your medication in 1–3 days. We also offer expedited shipping or local courier delivery when time is critical—like before a big game or travel.
